Ascend

Why Ascend Exists

A personal story about career growth, mentorship, and making AI work for everyone.

I've spent over 30 years in technology. I've hired hundreds of people, managed large teams, and navigated my own career through companies, pivots, and industries. And here's what I've learned:

Building your best career doesn't just happen. It takes planning and work at every step — from your first job to retirement.

This isn't a new insight. Talk to anyone who's built a career they're proud of, and the pattern is always the same: they didn't leave it to chance. They had methods. They maintained their network even when they weren't looking. They tracked their goals. They prepared obsessively for important conversations. Many had mentors or career coaches helping them think through their next moves.

But here's the gap: most people don't have access to great mentors. Most can't afford career coaches. And the tools that exist — LinkedIn, job boards, spreadsheets — are either designed to serve someone else's interests or too fragmented to be useful.

AI is not a replacement for having good mentors and coaches. But it can help a lot.

An AI can remember everything you tell it. It can monitor your network. It can brief you before meetings. It can nudge you when you're letting important relationships go cold. It can help you think through decisions with full context. It can be the career advisor that's always working in the background, always thinking about how to help you advance.

That's what Ascend is. The career advisor that everyone deserves but few have access to.

It's private — because your career management is nobody's business but yours. It's yours forever — because unlike your employer's HR system, it doesn't get revoked when you leave. And it's built to serve you across your entire career, not just during a job search.
